Ketoconazole and Minoxidil, do they work together?  Yes… and no.  Ketoconazole is the active ingredient in many anti-fungal shampoos, including Nizoral.  While it won’t help you grow hair on its own, the combination of Ketoconazole and Minoxidil might be the best for your hair loss.

Ketoconazole is an anti-fungal treatment, found in a number of shampoos including Nizoral.  On its own, a Ketoconazole shampoos is unlikely to increase your hair growth, it will certainly keep your hair and scalp clean, which is important when applying Minoxidil.

We say it, time and time again, the application of Minoxidil is so important.  To get the best results from your Minoxidil, your hair must be 100% clean and dry before your apply the Minoxidil.  Nizoral and other Ketoconazole shampoos are a great option for pre-Minoxidil washing.  Great cleaning, anti-fungal properties and the stopping of dandruff all help to make your scalp as good as it an be, ready for the Minoxidil to do its work!

Ketoconazole is generally used for its antifungal properties, but there is anecdotal evidence indicating that it may also help promote hair growth or reduce hair loss. One small pilot study consisting of 15 people with alopecia, for example, found that ketoconazole may be able to improve hair regrowth.

Only 15 people.  That’s not much of a study, but still, while using Mnoxidil, you may as well use a shampoo that could help the growth of your hair.
